Story

Story

Located in the heart of the Sancerre Region in Chavignol, the Delaporte Domaine has been handed from father to son for generations since the 17th century. Through an organic approach undertaken in the last generation and judicious oak usage, their wines deliver subtlety, finesse and aromatic complexity.

Specifications

Specifications

The vines have a southeasterly exposure that get a great deal of sunshine. Thanks to a diversity of soils types, principally flint (50%) and limestone (50%) which deliver the remarkable and unique minerality to this wine.

Grape variety – 100% Pinot Noir

Vines age – Made from old vines from 21 to 40 years old, this Pinot Noir variety is planted on calcareous soils.

Winemaking – The grapes are 100 per cent hand-picked and are sorted manually on a sorting table. The fermentation is then carried out for twelve days at a temperature of 25° Celsius, with daily pumping over, pigéage and constant sampling, in order to extract from the cap of grape skins and solid matter the maximum amount of fruit aromas, colours and tannins contained in the skin of the grapes. The Malolactic fermentation takes place in 228-litre Tronçais oak barrels for 50 per cent of the harvest and in stainless-steel vats for the other half.

The wine is bottled after six months of ageing without filtration.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

The beautiful deep ruby-violet colours of this pinot noir wine give way to aromas of very ripe red fruits (cherry, blackberry and raspberry). The nose is intense and well-integrated, with odours of cooked red fruits and roasted coffee beans. There are also hints of graphite and cinnamon. Very round and smooth on the attack, with tight tannins on the palate. In the mouth come aromas of smoke and prune. This wine is ready to drink, but could also be kept for some years

Wine Enthusiast – 91 points

“This is a powerful wine, full of tannins as well as rich black fruits. The wine was aged in wood, bringing out the toastiness of the barrel without suppressing the wine’s fruitiness. Still young, it will be best from 2021.”
