Story

Story

At the most southern tip of the Burgundy Region, the Cornin Estate spreads ten hectares around the village of Chaintré, a small, traditional village of the Mâconnais Region.

Family run, it is now managed by father Dominique and son Romain, in biodynamic principles. While the domaine was established in its own name in 1993, it was in the hands of the great-grandfather over 100 years ago.

One of the treasure of the estate is the venerable old vines, some of which 80-100 years old.

“The youthful, well-trained Romain Cornin is undoubtedly a winemaker to keep an eye on” – Tim Atkin

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

The Mâcon – Chaintré that we produce is created from different plots, each one bringing to this wine something unique. All the plots are located at the foothills of Chaintré rooted in a clay-limestone soil beaded
with fluvial pebbles.
We bite into a Chaintré like a green apple, using all our teeth! It is juicy and refreshing. We bite and we are bitten by its charm, put under a spell by its exuberant nose and dashing white flower, fresh fruit and citrus zest aromas. A glass of Chaintré in hand is a flower on a lapel, a crisp water colour, it’s spring weather that warms life. A glass of happiness, carefree and hopeful…

As with the Cornins’ Mâcon-Fuissé, there is plenty to like here. Rich and concentrated with brisk acidity to keep everything fresh, some leesy, creamy notes, with a bite of zesty citrus to keep the ripe fruit in check. Intriguing, long mineral finish. A very classy wine and a top example of village Mâcon.
