Story

Story

Based in Ay, a Grand Cru Village close to Epernay, Champagne Lallier is founded on the ‘Art of Eating and drinking well’, which they apply through a vintage-based approach for all their cuvees: 80% minimum of the base vintage for a clear identity and allowing for great versatility on food pairing. Such gastronomic approach rewards the House with presence on many Michelin star tables around the world.

One of the rare houses headed by the winemaker, the Cuvées are crafted exclusively with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Grand Cru vineyards, leading to a style of finesse and precision for ultimate drinking enjoyment.

Specifications

Specifications

This is 100% Grand Cru, the Pinot Noir is sourced from the Grand Cru Aÿ and the Chardonnay from the Grand Crus of Avize and Cramant in the Côte de Blancs. The provenance of the grapes enables a low dosage to express the purity and the richness of these terroirs.

Blend: 65% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay,

Dosage: 9g/L

The bottles are matured on their lees in chalk cellars for 24-36 months.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

It unveils to the eye a clear golden color, with green reflections. This cuvée is mainly characterized by its power. It is round on the palate, and develops buttered brioche aromas, followed by yellow fruits such as apricot. A very charming champagne, well balanced and gourmand. With great complexity and finesse, this has an energizing, citrusy palate and delivers an equal measure of ripe, toasty fruit followed by a tasty, elegant finish.

It has everything : fine bubbles, creamy texture and impressive freshness.

Grande réserve from Maison Lallier pairs with almost every dishes, nevertheless, fish and seashells make the perfect match.

Wine Enthusiast – 92 points

With a fine sense of maturity, this is rich, toasty, full-bodied and concentrated. It is a Champagne with weight, showing pink grapefruit, melon and green plum flavors inside an intense texture. At the end, acidity combines with a fine toasty flourish

Wine Advocate – 91 points

Lallier’s NV Grande Réserve Brut is a deep, ripe, elegant and perfectly balanced assemblage of 65% Pinot Noir from Aÿ and Verzenay, and 35% Chardonnay from Avize and Cramant; so, all sourced in Grands and Premiers Crus villages around Aÿ. This fizz is very clear and stylish on the nose, with pure red fruit and some refreshing lemon aromas along with brioche, hazelnut and stewed apple flavors. Round and nobly textured on the palate, with a stimulatingly fresh minerality, this is a remarkable elegant, refined and expressive Champagne with great purity and a persistent finish. A medium-bodied classic! The wine I tasted was disgorged in December 2014 and is perfect to drink now and over the next 4-6, or even more years.
