‘Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars has a long and distinguished wine reputation and is considered a Napa Valley first-growth estate. We are best known for our estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons. Over the years, these wines have become some of the most highly regarded and collected wines worldwide. They are fashioned to express classic elegance, structure, and ageability, and to reflect the place in which they are grown.’

Founded by Warren Winiarski in 1970, the winery’s first release, the 1973 Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, would go on to beat world-famous reds produced by first-growth Bordeaux châteaux like Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion at the 1976 Judgement of Paris. The winery is co-owned by Chateau St Michelle and Antinori.

ARTEMIS, named after the Greek goddess of the hunt, is a wine that truly reflects its name. It’s the culmination of our hunt for the finest grapes from Napa Valley which, when combined with estate-grown fruit, combine to create a Cabernet Sauvignon that expresses the regional character of Napa Valley with the signature style of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. This approach results in a wine of lush fruit flavors balanced by extraordinary structure and elegance. Whereas our Estate Cabernet Sauvignons showcase the distinctive characteristics of each vineyard, ARTEMIS demonstrates how astute grape selection and skillful blending can create a wine that represents the sum of Napa Valley’s best Cabernet Sauvignon parts.

Vineyards – Imagine taking an aerial tour of Napa Valley, flying over the patchwork of vineyards that have made the valley and its wines famous. The grapes for ARTEMIS are sourced from a unique collection of these sites.

Winemaking – The blend is derived from a spectrum of fruit grown for Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars by independent growers from across the Napa Valley. Each site lends its personality to the aroma, flavor, structure and texture of the finished wine. A touch of Merlot (4%) and Malbec (1%) were blended with the Cabernet Sauvignon for another layer of complexity. The wine was aged for 16 months in 43% new oak (38% new French Oak; 5% new American Oak) with the balance in older oak barrels.

ARTEMIS Cabernet Sauvignon offers inviting aromas of ripe raspberry, boysenberry and dark cherry along with hints of cedar and spice. The mid-palate is pleasant and round with flavors of plum, dark chocolate, dried fruit and a touch of toasted oak. The finish is rich and lingering. Decanter – 93 points

Dark black fruit, brighter blue fruit and lavish oak spices fill the nose. Medium bodied yet rich on the palate, with juicy blackberry and black cherry fruit, plums, sweet baking spices, chalky minerality, a satiny milk chocolate texture and fine tannins. Expressive and lengthy.


James Suckling – 93 points

 Cassis, dried blueberries, violets, ink, graphite, dried leaves and cigar box on the nose. Full-bodied with firm, polished tannins. Smooth and supple with excellent balance and length. Drink from 2023.


Wine Advocate – 90 points

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis is a blend of 99.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and .5% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it springs forth with notes of black raspberries, redcurrant jelly and fresh blackberries, plus hints of dried mint, damp soil and crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate gives up tons of juicy black and red berry flavors with great freshness and sturdy, grainy tannins, finishing earthy.
